The Nevada Museum of Art has deep roots when it comes to art and environment. Founded in 1931 by a small group of plein-air landscape painters, the Museum has always understood the importance of examining how humans interact with natural, built and virtual environments. With art collections ranging from Native American baskets and nineteenth century landscape paintings, to Altered Landscape photography and a burgeoning contemporary art collection, the Museum recognizes that what sets it apart from other institutions is this unique focus area. Beginning in 2009, the Museum decided to dedicate its curatorial, scholarly, and research endeavors to the study of art and environments.

From the very beginning, Animal Ark has strived to provide a safe haven for non-releasable wildlife. The facility takes in disadvantaged animals onto its 70 acres of land, fashioned to make them most at home. Exhibits are designed to be comfortable, spacious, and appropriate for each animal that the Ark agrees to take in, and are constructed with the highest quality materials and workmanship possible. While providing comfortable space for the animals, these exhibits are also designed to enhance the visitor’s experience. Since many of Animal Ark’s residents are predators and therefore elusive and shy in nature, this provides a rare opportunity for the public to get very close and be able to observe the animals. Part of Animal Ark’s commitment to our resident wildlife is not just providing food and shelter, but also a stimulating and rich habitat.
Programs including on-going field trips serve as opportunities to educate the public about wildlife through exhibits and demonstrations.

Popcorn, cotton candy and Ferris wheels are just around the corner at the Nevada State Fair, which is now called The Nevada Territory Wild West Fair. The fair is a statewide heritage event that honors and recognizes the rich histories and lasting legacies of the pioneer men and women who first founded the Silver State during the mid 1800's. “The Nevada Territory Wild West Fair” focuses on traditional livestock shows, auctions, agricultural events, and exhibits, as well as carnival rides and live entertainment. There are new and exciting educational and interactive elements added to the fair this year that will embrace a Wild West theme to celebrate and acknowledge Nevada's rich and storied history.
New venues and attractions to the fair in this, and in coming years, will include a Mining Camp, a Western Frontier Town, a Civil War Town and Camp, Chinatown, Native American Village, Railroad Yard, Stage Coach rides, Old Mexico and much more. Visitors from across the state compete in a variety of events while enjoying the down-home atmosphere provided by the Silver State. Nightly grandstand events will bring the arena to life with shows including the motor cross and aerial stunt show, the bull riding night and the ever-popular destruction derby.
